The Grill at Avondale Golf Club in the small North Idaho city of Hayden Lake welcomed a new chef in the summer of 2017. Troy Louis Chandler is bringing his extensive culinary background to the table, where guests can now enjoy a diverse and delicious menu, with everything from Mediterranean, Cajun and Mexican to French cuisine to Pan Asian.
Nestled among the greens of the Avondale Golf Course, guests—both members and non-members alike—are treated to an upscale yet casual restaurant where the food, atmosphere and service all come first. This is executed through Avondale’s new manager, Nick Mahin, formerly of The Cellar, and Chef Troy working closely together. They have elevated food and service while maintaining “neighborhood” friendly pricing.
The available-anytime “Pub” menu is designed for fun and casual cuisine. You can enjoy lighter fare or shareable appetizers to full entrees. The “After Five” dinner menu allows the chef to be creative. This is where you will find ever-changing creations from wild shark to lamb to fried chicken. During football season, they offer their plated Sunday Brunch that is gaining huge popularity. And rumor has it that Chef Troy is going to start doing sushi on Thursday nights!
“We are unique as we have various menus due to our growing diversity,” says Chef Troy. There’s something for everyone. Sometimes I feel that we should have a menu for our menus.”
Troy, Nick and the rest of the Avondale crew want their guests to trust and enjoy their food. Since taking over the kitchen in June, Chef Troy has retooled the menus, moving away from any premade and frozen products to fresh house-made items. This has brought excitement to the staff, from cooks learning and growing to servers being proud to describe and deliver dishes to their guests.
“I am surprised at all of the people I meet in town who think that we are a private golf club and restaurant. Well … I’m not that surprised because before I took the job, I thought that, too! Diners also benefit as we keep pricing low while maintaining great quality for our members. Some quickly sign up for the extremely affordable golf membership after only a few visits!
